Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
From memory in outlook 2007, when you go to set up an email all you do is enter the email address and outlook will go off and get you the details and fill them in for you.
If you can't get it to do it automatically then this link should provide the info you need for outlook. http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...ice.controller |
Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
Have a look here & scroll down to Freeserve:
http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/t...-settings.html pop.freeserve.com for incoming, Virgin's smtp server for outgoing. |
Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
Thanks for the reply but that way dont work needs to be manually, Need to use a relay type smtp from virgin.
When i was with o2 i used smtp.relay.o2.com so i could use any of my old emails. ---------- Post added at 21:51 ---------- Previous post was at 21:47 ---------- cobbydaler cheers for that i know the freeserve settings but the virgin settings dont seem to work. Im using smtp.ntlworld.com |
Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
Just use the standard virgin SMTP server, that'll allow you to send any email OK as long as you are on a VM connection. To recieve obviously you'll need the freeserve POP

Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
Maybe I'm off track here but I have VM, BTINTERNET & MSN e-mail accounts.
I regularly switch between VM & O2 broadband and freely use all three e-mail services. So when you moved to VM I wouldn't have expected that you needed to make any changes to the settings in Outlook 2007. So: 1. What happens when you hit send/receive? 2. What are your current settings in Outlook for the account (excl. password) |

Are you sure you're in an ex :ntl area?

Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
You sure then that the server address is typed in correctly? (seriously this does happen quite often)
Also try pinging the address or even telnet into the server on port 25 (use command prompt or Putty ) ---------- Post added at 22:15 ---------- Previous post was at 22:15 ---------- Quote:

Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
If you;re using XP type in the command prompt the following
Code:
telnet smtp.ntlworld.com 25If on either of them you do not get the server ready message then it's probably a firewall or network fault stopping it |
Re: Setting up microsoft outlook to send and recieve old email address with virgin
You didn't post your account settings for Freeserve account. I should have mentioned tha you might need to set your Outgoing Server Port Number to 587 (not 25).
