Now that is a bad move, VOLVO once the cars classed as tanks will become another cheap import from China.

When I was a lad the same could be said for Japan. It didn't take them all that long to show us how to build stuff....

Exactly the same applied to Japanese bikes when the likes of BSA, Norton, Triumph etc. ruled the roost here. It won't be many years until the Chinese are building quality bikes, cars etc.

What about the likes of Lexus? They are "decent" machines.

Lexus is a division of Toyota and according to this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus

their production centres are all in Japan except for one in Canada.

Urm...

Hmm.. still though. Decent machines, according to me old man..

Lexus is indeed a prestige, high quality, brand and regularly tops the customer satisfaction league tables. China may not be competing at that level yet but I don't think it'll be too long before they are...

I am not sure, China bought Rover.. aswell..

I am sure, they are wanting to keep the "same" quality based on the Volvo name. But I could be wrong and they could just use, cheap plastic everywhere!

These things take a little time but I can't see them buying a reputable brand only to destroy it. It may take a decade or two for them to really compete with the Japs and Germans but I have no doubt they will do.

I don't think they bought Rover as a prestige brand... ;)
