Vbox to HDDr / DVDr
 

Hi all



I've just subscribed to Virgin cable TV with the standard M+ package using a standard Virgin V set top box. It's NOT the V+ HD box (i'm too tight for that :D).



I want to record tv programmes thru Virgin cable tv. I have a DVDr / HDDr box which i'm currently recording freeview programmes thru its built in freeview receiver and thought i could use this. if connected to the Vbox.



My questions are:



1 - Is it possible to record Virgin cable programmes thru a standard Vbox onto a DVDr / HDDr machine ?

2 - If so, how can i do it ?

Easy way is to use a scart lead between the HDD/DVD box and V box. Tune the HDD/DVD to the scart port in use then set the program you want on the V box.

You won't be able to get the HDD/DVD thing to change the V box channels, so you have to set both the V box and HDD/DVD to run separately. That makes things a bit limited as the V box EPG (programme guide) is only 1 day.

here are your answers

1) yes as I am doing it, but remember you can only record the VM channel that is currently on.
2) Not a techie but Scart out from the V box (VCR out) into the scart in on your recorder. then when i record I am recording to L1

To get the best quality picture from this setup, I connect the TV scart from the V box to the DVD, then scart from the DVD to the TV. Then set up the DVD to record the RGB signal from the V box (DVD instructions will tell you how). Recordings made in this way using SP mode will be the same quality as those origionally broadcast.

I also have a third connection from the VCR scart of the V box direct to the TV, so that I can record a freeview channel whilst watching a VM channel (at lower quality).

Most HDD/DVD combos also have a scart passthrough, so you can setup a timer recording on freeview, and can then continue to use the high quality RGB output from the V box even when recording freeview (DVD must be in standby mode).

Cool - thanks for the quick responses guys.

I was thinking you could route thru the STB into the recorder, but was thinking like a video player where the video will only record what's on its tuner.

Guess i'm still a little confused how it can do it :dunce: Think i'll just put it down to witchcraft. :D

If you hear of someone putting a tv and associated tuners / recorders thru a window, you'll know i wasn't successful.
