5 Eurostar trains break down in chunnel

Sounds like stranded passengers had a nightmare. Emergency evacuation procedures look a bit lacking.

Channel Tunnel services are in chaos as Eurotunnel closes its car shuttle, and Eurostar launches a review into train breakdowns.

I think the excuse given was cold trains going from cold air in the open, into warm humid air in the tunnels caused excessive condensation to build up and short many electrical systems.... Like that was an unforeseeable issue.... :dozey:

Yeah I read that. Can't help but think we've had cold weather before since Eurostar started, surely something else has changed.

Maybe a maintenance issue.... Lets face it, lots of campanies have downsized their workforces in the last year. And some of those (like EDS) have come a cropper when essential maintenance takes a back seat to the companies bottom line....

To quote a Eurostar spokesman:
Quote:

Shields fitted to the trains to stop snow getting into the electrics had failed and needed to be improved
From the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/eu...third-day.html ;)

Ive been following this closely.
My parents had already booked on eurotunnel for Sunday and went a day later due to the chaos.
Even today they were waiting in a queue for an hour before being told to turn round.
All trains are stopped and they have had to head towards Dover ferry port instead.

Does seem a bit strange, after all they've been running for 15 years with no problems, as you say probably a maintenance issue. Deteriorated seals not being renewed or similar.

I don't have this problem.

I stay at home in front of a nice fire with nibbles and a very large vodka.
