linksys wrt54gs has gone mental!
Hi all, was wondering if anyone could help with a wierd one....
I have moved my modem (virgin) and router (linksys wrt54gs) from upstairs to the cellar so that i can plug my PS3 directly into the router so i dont have to use i wirelessly. However i still want to use laptop wirelessly elsewhere in house. I have run my own cable into the cellar and connected it and the modem works fine. If i plug modem>router>laptop i get internet. However it wont connect wireless network anymore! When i click on the icon in the bottom right, it says "you are currently connected to this network, to disconnect from this network, click disconnect" yet at the top of the same box it says not connected???!!!! It shows my signal strength as excellent.... I'm typing this with an ethernet cable connected from the router into the back of the laptop, so its not a provider issue. It just seems that the router doesnt want to be wireless anymore, even though it worked fine before i moved it. Tearing my hair out here guys and gals, and ideas? Yours in hope, Jason C........... p.s. the cisco badge on the left of the front panel is lit up orange if that means anything to anyone. if i push it it flashes blue for a bit then goes back to orange again..... Still befuddled! |

Re: linksys wrt54gs has gone mental!
About a thousand times! I've tried unplugging modem, unplugging router, restarting computer, resetting router, pushing the quick setup button on the router.... i even tried unplugging the bloody toaster!
I refuse to believe that i somehow managed to break the router by carrying it down two flights of stairs. Does anyone think it could be anything to do with the cable i used to reroute into the cellar? I used PF100 from screwfix. I ran it down to cellar and connected up in the outdoor virgin box when i unplugged the original cable that went upstairs. It must be working cos i'm typing this!!! Allbeit with an ethernet cable coming from the router and plugged into back of my laptop..... |
Re: linksys wrt54gs has gone mental!
Try going into network connections and shutting down your wireless card, then disconnect your ethernet cable, and shut down the LAN card.
then bring the wireless card back up and try to connect. The point is to remove any IP settings your machine currently has set for both interfaces before you try to connect to the router. when you've done this, if it connects just go into command prompt and type IP config to check your getting an IP from the router |
Re: linksys wrt54gs has gone mental!
Fixed it guys! Looks like i semi-bricked it. Got a firmware update off the linksys site. Was having a few problems with the .bin file at first until i realised u had to go into the router setup and install it from there. Anyway, back firing on all cylinders now..
Thanks for ur help Chris and Bomber. |
