Can't access GoogleMail
 

Yesterday I found I was unable to access any Google site for several hours. I can now access the main Google page (www.google.co.uk) but I still can't access GoogleMail. This definitely appears to be a problem related to by Virgin Media connection, because I have just tried switching my laptop from the Virgin Media connection to my Vodafone mobile brodaband and I could then access GoogleMail. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Just tried resetting my router and now I can access GoogleMail again. Rather at a loss to explain this - no other site was affected. Some weird problem with DNS perhaps?

Try this:

Windows key & R together >> CMD

In CMD type:

tracert http://mail.google.com and post the results

Whilst in CMD try ping http://mail.google.com and paste the results.

Looks like to me, it's a routing issue. I woudl speak to TS and see if 2nd/3rd line can do anything about it.

No, thats an invalid request being handled incorrectly by Virgin's DNS servers, what you want is ping/tracert mail.google.com (note no http:// or trailing /)

As I said earlier, the problem was solved by resetting my router. But I'm just intrigued to know what caused the glitch in the first place.
