Can't receive Emails

Firstly hello to you all:)

I am in the BS32 area of Bristol, a former Telewest customer and its a blueyonder email address.

Breifly
I can send emails but not receive them, this issue has been going on since the 22nd of October.

I have rung the VM helpline on at least 4 occasions now and have been told they know about the fault and it would be fixed by the 27th of November or sooner.

Today I rang again and was told there is no fault and I should take my PC to a virgin store and the would fix the problem!!!! WHAT!
Also keep trying to send myself a email and it might come back!

Thanks to Annie the Indian Lady that gave me that advice but I am not happy.

This would be no big deal, but this email address is on all my paperwork and other places where my only point of contact is someone emailing me.

Is there any help or advice as to my way forward please?

Re: Can't receive Emails

What are you using to try retrieving your email? Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird, other?
What error do you get from that program?
What 'pop3' server do you have configured in that program?
Can you log into your email using webmail?

Its OE6
I can log in into webmail but that shows no messages either.
Its pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
It does not show any errors just no messages.

HTH and sorry again for posting in the wrong bit of the forum.

Re: Can't receive Emails

Have you (or someone else) set auto forwarding on the account? Look in Webmail, under settings.
Or is someone else logging into to your account and uploading the mail?

Blueyonder webmail doesn't have a settings option.

Re: Can't receive Emails

Login to webmail and send yourself an e-mail.
Do you get the mail in your webmail inbox?
Do you get any error message?

Click options and spam settings, lower your spam settings to "tag header".
Send yourself an e-mail again.
Did you get the e-mail.

This way we can start to find if its a server problem or a OE/software problem.

Look forward to you posting back :)

Doh - is there any way to autoforward blueyonder addresses?

Re: Can't receive Emails

The fact that you can send an e mail indicates the hardware is fine. Your software is at fault. As the guys suggest, its probably your settings.

Thank you
I have done all of the above and have received nothing back and no error messages.

The emails are showing as sent items though

Ok time to ring tech support.
Call at 8am you'll be more likely to get a UK agent.

Sounds like the Username/Alias has an authentication failure and if so will require raising to the IT guys for a resolution.

I had a similar one a few weeks back which did the same appeared to be sending mails which never arrived and also never received any either, and that was virtually identical to this issue.

You will need to call Tech Support to get this raised to our IT department.

Re: Can't receive Emails

Thankyou all for your kindness and help back to tech support in the morning.
I will inform you of the outcome.

Just one afterthought I received the following Email from Virgin a while back and I duly rang 151 and was told Ishould never have received it and disregard it and my account was fine!

Anything to do with it?----- Original Message ----- From: "Virgin Media" <support@virginmedia.com>

Subject: Whoops! There's a problem with your email account.

Hello

At Virgin Media, we're always looking for ways to give you the best you can get from your broadband connection. In a few months' time, we'll be upgrading our email platform, but before we can do that, we need to fix something on your account.

Don't worry though. We can sort this out really easily if you give us a quick call.

Call us on 0845 454 1111 or call 151 from a Virgin Media phone* before 19th October so we can make sure you don't have any interruptions to your email service.

Unfortunately, if we don't hear from you, you won't be able to access your emails after 19th October. But you can still call us after that, until the end of January 2010, and we'll be able to get you up and running again**.

Kind regards

Mark Davidson
Executive Director, Customer Care
Virgin Media

* For call costs visit our website http://virginmedia.com/callcosts.

** From 31st January 2010, your email account and all emails within it will be permanently deleted.

Re: Can't receive Emails

Very helpful.

There will be a data mismatch in LDAP. Needs raising to the IT chaps.
