Event of the noughties

What event of the decade would get that title? I reckon 9/11, the Asian Tsunami and the 2008/9 world recession would be my top 3.

Obviously 9/11 because it's changed the world forever, whatever your opinion of it.

Tsunami, London bombings, The intense assault on Gaza last year, All of the major floods around the world, Continued famines, The Iraq & Afghan occupations.

So many bad things =(

On the plus side. Billy Joel has another verse for 'We Didn't Start the Fire'

Don't forget the final flight of Concorde in 2003.

Defo 9/11

It's the spark for Iraq/Afghanistan.

After that the credit crunch might still be a biggy when the effects of making money from thin air and passing it into the pockets of bankers kick in with a vengeance.

I think she was pointing out xocemp said it was the first black president and didn't mention it was only the first black US president.

I'm no history expert but I'll wager there might have been a couple of black presidents in African countries before Obama came along.

I have to agree with 9/11 its been the catalyst for Bin-Ladens wish of distrust between the worlds main religions, sadly.
Also I believe the Iraq war should be in the top three also, Bush/Blair's twopennth worth towards religious distrust.

History: 9/11, banking collapse
Future : Anything the LHC discovers, whatever swan song Al-Qaeda is saving up for.
Most over-hyped : x-Flu, global warming and the dangers of the LHC.

Re: Event of the noughties

Perhaps not quite an 'event' but I would put the spread of the internet over the last decade as even more life-changing.

Yer, I know Arpanet started in the 60s and HTML invented at the beginning of the 90s but it's been the last decade that has seen its enormous growth into many areas of life that has been most important.
