email problem

Just new so I hope I am in the right place with this. I am having to close down my Virgin account because we are moving house. We are desparate to keep our old email addresses as my daughter uses hers for all her work contacts. I gather they will close the email account if we do not have an active broadband account. My friend has virgin. Can we somehow "tag" on to her account using same email address, with her permission of course. Would greatly appreciate any help guys. Thanks so much.

It may, and I stress MAY be possible. But getting an address added to another account poses technical and personal security issues.

I think you're stuffed on this one. I might be mistaken, but if you took a Virgin National Broadband account on your new telephone, they would give you a different e-mail address prolly on a different domain.

hi there if your moving house and not taking up vitrgin media at your new house 1 your broadband is gonna be super slow lol love the 50mg

ok what you asked most isp services will leave your account for email open so once your account is closed and you moved try loging in on the virgin media web p[age and if it goes on your good but if not im afraid you wont be able to link it to another account it sounds simple but not possible to do as they cant move it from your account to a friends on the system its not something the systemns were set up to do but you should hopefully be able to get the email still. but if your new house is in a cable area you may as well sign up coz face it its awsome lol no faster broadband around atm and i dont see anyone catching up anytime soon even with the new we do up to 20mg its a sham lol hope that was helpfull

The best way is to move over to hotmail / gmail / gmx is a good one, or the like, inform every single person 'everyday till they get the message' in your address book and then forward all your Virgin mail over to the new email account while you still have access to it..

Doing this will release you from this kind of hassle regardless of ISP you go with in the future..

Re: email problem

When you move house your email service with Virgin ceases to work as it is attached to the now inactive account.

If you are moving to another cabled property then we can do what is called a Move and Transfer which in essence means we take your old email address and graft it onto your new account, but this can only be done if you move from an NTL area to a NTL area or a Blueyonder area to a blueyonder area as they cannot be moved across platforms.

As for doing a Move and Transfer onto your friends account I rather doubt it would be feasible as you would need to be in your friends house when you call up and you would both need to clear DPA.

If your friend already uses a Virgin email address this would delete it from his account and if they used PC Guard they would need your email address and password to enable them to keep using it.

So your emails would not be private as another person could potentially have full access to them and the only way you would be able to use your email address would be via webmail as you would not be able to use a POP client easily such as Outlook Express.

So unless you are moving to cable enabled property the best thing to do is get yourself a non ISP based email address such as Googlemail or GMX.

Thank you for all of your replies. We are going to live in Canada so we cant have virgin there so it looks as though we will have to set up new accounts. Thanks anyway everyone.

One very good argument for using webmail solutions.

Which webmail would you recommend.

I would personally recommend Gmail but purely as I use it myself and have been since early beta.

No harm in trying a few and seeing which one fits your needs the most.

I said Gmail above or GMX both do the business and may suit the OP's needs..
