problems with N dongle
Hi
Have 50meg broadband and everythings workin great after swapping netgear for dlink router. Was using the n dongle for laptop with the netgear and the dlink router no problems at all this was with vista OS Just bought new laptop with windows 7 and cant for the life of me get the dongle to work. Have downloaded the new drivers from microsoft help, did copy and paste them, then uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled new ones. Have tried everything apart from swinging it round my head, i even emailed netgear for an answer but was told to ring their support line so i rang the helpline but was told to search the internet for a solution as netgear dongle does not support windows 7 and they have no timescale as to when they will be able to provide new drivers. Rang Virgin techinical help but they said they dont support windows 7 and as their is nothing wrong with the dongle suggested that i used my old laptop until netgear provided me with a fix!!!! have looked on the internet but cant find how to get the dongle working the software installs perfectly but when it gets to the connection part it cant find the wireless connection and when you click on the software it does load up BUT it hangs for a couple of seconds and you cant click on anything then it closes Any info from anyone is much appreciated Juliex |

Re: problems with N dongle
does the new laptop not already have wireless? may just have to deal with G but at least it will work
|
Re: problems with N dongle
you should be able to use the Vista drivers on Win 7 for the dongle. does it get detected in Device Manager at all?
|
Re: problems with N dongle
Zing: yeah it does have the G nework card in it and i can connect to the internet using this, but using the dongle has a better transfer rate.
Doc: the laptop detects it in device manager but with the yellow exclamation mark stating device not working due to driver issue. It wont work with vista drivers, downloaded vista drivers and reinstalled didn'twork, so i download the drivers on win 7 microsoft help again didn't work. its the WN111v2 dongle supplied by virgin when i got 50meg installed |
Re: problems with N dongle
does the vista drivers have an installer? if so try right clicking the exe select properties and then compatability and run the installer in vista compat mode
|
Re: problems with N dongle
hi
yeah tried compat mode doesn't work Just recieved an email from netgear stating that the new win 7 drivers will be available by march 2010 as these are old dongles and their concentrating on their new hardware. But they did suggest i buy a new dongle which is win 7 compatable hahaah wat a joke lol Virgin made me laugh to and stated that i should have waited until more hardware was compatable with win 7 before buying the laptop, when i asked if they would supply me with a new one which will work with win 7, u would have thought i asked them to make me a millionaire apparently thats not in their remit and use my old laptop as the dongle supplied is for xp and vista OS not windows 7 |
Re: problems with N dongle
If it's the DWA-140 the win7 drivers are here
