Broadband Speed through a set top box

Hi, hope someone can give some advice. I have been on 20mb service for a year but following a problem installing a new wireless router it came to light that I should have had a cable modem installed when I switched to the XL pack. This never happened and so I have been getting my service through the original NTL set top box. Does anyone know what sort of speed I would have been getting through that as I now realise I wasn't getting anywhere near 20Mb, new cable modem in and thing is whizzing (comparatively)?

You could test the speed at a particular point in time through this link: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/

Do it several times in different hours and you'll get the bigger picture.

To know if you'll get anywhere near 20 Mbps, do it at 07:00 or midnight.

Let us know.

Can't really get more than 2Mbps on a set top box, the Pace ones even had a max of 1Mbps.
