Hey i have just seen this over on DS :

In terms of Virgin Media's long-term strategy for 3D, the cable TV provider is thought to favour providing the content in an on-demand capacity rather than offering a linear channel such as that recently announced by rival Sky.

So it seems like at this point that they are trying to keep up with sky ?

Makes sense given that the focus on HD for quite some time was HD on demand. Unlike HD the 3D being on demand won't have any special bit rate requirements so should be relatively simple.

Is there really such a high demand for 3D? I personally don't think its worth VM investing in and should concentrate on the HD side of the business for now.

Lets be honest, those who have watched the recent 3D films at the cinema on a huge screen with superior polarized glasses with hopefully agree it looks quite good at times.

The same thing with the rubbish cardboard glasses with red/blue quality street wrappers over them on a smaller screen in your front room is going to look pretty rubbish in comparison.

I say try and catch up with Sky's HD service first before matching them in the 3D stakes.

And yes 3d at the cinema looked really good at times, when I next watch a 2d movie it'll feel like a comedown :)

According to the latest Electric VM magazine there will be 3D shows on the On Demand list on 17th November!

By the looks of it you cannot use your leftover cinema 3D glasses as it will be the blue/amber lenses you need. Get your 3D specs from Sainsburys or VM stores.

Slight side-note, latest NVidia drivers come with a program that utilises either these glasses or a set of shutter glasses like they use in the Imax

Yup and if you don't uninstall it then photoshop elements stops working properly. Gave me a headache anyway trying to fit coloured cellophane around my specs.

Just seen this over on NASDAQ and this is the bit that stood out for me !

Sony will be launching its new Bravia LCD TV next year, which will be fully 3D capable and will make a market entry when BSkyB launches its 3D Channel on Sky TV. Meanwhile, Virgin Media could possibly beat rival BskyB and make 3D TV available on demand. The 3D technology will let viewers choose between 2D and 3D on their TVs by wearing special glasses.
