smtp problems in sending emails... (Nov 4th 2009)

Since yesterday I have had a problem sending email across all of my NTL address, without changing any settings. It now says:

Task '******@ntlworld.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC80) : 'None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.'

My pop3 / incoming works fine just now. Problems only started since yesterday. Anyone any ideas?

Status page doesn't say anything is wrong.

The error code you are getting is an error code that you normally get if you try and send e mail when connected to a different isp than the one that your sending account (smtp server) is set to.

Are you connected to ntl's network? You aren't working wirelessly and picked up another unsecured isp in error?

If everything above is OK, try deleting the e mail account from outlook and then set it up again - inexplicably, this sometimes works!

Ah! Thank you.

I deleted the accounts and recreated them - problem is now solved! I wouldn't have thought of that.

A Repair account from Outlook's Account menu might have worked.
