Yahoo employs Lapdancers at their hack days..
Apparently every year, Yahoo holds a series of events that they call "hack days". They enable the various developers using Yahoo services to meet, get to know each other and discuss ideas.
This year, in an effort to make everyone (including women coders and technologists) welcome, they employed lap dancers. http://digital.venturebeat.com/2009/...iwan-hack-day/ While I can see how it would be offensive, is it as offensive as watching Steve Balmer leaping round the stage, sweating profusely and yelling "Developers Developers Developers"... http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...7408656696643# ? |

Ballmer has always been one DLL short of a program.
If it would be nice if people didn't take offence at something for a change. Or as Clarkson "please feel free to keep that objection to yourself". |

Seriously though, Lap Dances? They may be considered OK at Stag Nights but I would hardly consider them an appropriate Welcoming Committee at a corporate event where presumably they want to make the women attending feel comfortable in what was most probably a male dominated event. |

Is it appropriate? No. Simply because it will make some of the women uncomfortable. The same way as having a bunch of Male lap dancers would actually make some of the men uncomfortable. Although it doesn't bother me personally (and this is true, ask my friends, I really am not bothered by the sight of naked men), it does bother a lot of men. |

Boring to you red blooded males no doubt but the best corporate event I ever attended had a wandering magician who wove in and out of the groups and did a good job of getting everybody talking to each other before we got down to the business at hand, and he didn't need to risk catching a cold through lack of clothes in order to break the ice between a load of strangers. :D
