Did anyone else get promised 50mb?

Okay hi there people of cable forums..

When i signed up with virgin media. i got the XL package with 20mb internet.

But with this i was also promised a free upgrade to 50mb when it become available in my area.

After realizing it was available in the area for around a month now, i give them a phone call and was forwarded to an foreign call centre who basically told me i have to pay extra?!

Surely this is a breach of contract if it was promised as an upgrade for having the package i pay over £120 a month for surely!

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and how they resolved it... ( i realize it is only £11 extra a month. but with a family to support it is an un affordable addon for something promised as free.

thanks all,

Joe

How did you sign up? i.e phone, somebody knocking on your door etc.

Somebody came to the house as i was with sky broadband and they had convinced us to switch... but now it seems like they even lie now to get us to switch?!

can they do that?

If it's on the contract then you've got a case othewise you'll have to pay if you want 50Mb

They will tell you anything to clinch a sale, hadn't you noticed?

I agree that it is sickening. :(

I think that's the case in most sales cultures.. "anything to clinch the deal"

One of the reasons as to why I always ask for the offer in writing

I will never buy anything from a door to door sales person, they are the worse.

Simple reason it's better is due to the Fibre backbone.

Anywho - I always adopt the policy, if a person knocks at my door and the deal aint there tomorrow and or they aint got a leaftlet with the promotion on, then I wont sign. Simple as. No ifs or buts.

The fibre backbone is nothing to do with it, every network has a fibre backbone you can't really run 10Gbps over any distance on copper.

I presume you are referring to access networks and that the cable network has fibre to the node which is a very different thing from the backbone.

I believe Sky will be using the BT Openreach FTTN product allowing them to deliver 40Mbps/2Mbps and 40Mbps/10Mbps services and the FTTP 100Mbps/10Mbps product also.
