Netgear WNR2000 + YouTube + Windows Live Messenger = :(
I have a problem with my Netgear WNR2000 Router. When connecting wirelessly to it from my laptop, if I go on YouTube, it signs Windows Live Messenger out and wont let me reconnect until I have either closed the browser, or waited until the red bar on the YouTube video has been filled in. Has anyone experienced a problem like this before, or have any idea on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance, Ben :) |
Re: Netgear WNR2000 + YouTube + Windows Live Messenger = :(
Sounds like YouTube is hogging all the bandwidth and MSN can't get its ping requests through to tell the service you're still there, thus it signs out. Could be a bad combination of QoS settings or something else...
Try doing a large fast download while signed into MSN and see what happens. |

No problems when doing a large file download, though my download speeds wirelessly are 10mb which I thought was normal. Would it help if I actually had QoS turned on in the router?

QoS can help but it's normally used for throttling ports or a specific pc on the router all together. It might also kill your download speeds due to an overloaded CPU on the router, but you can try. Shouldn't need it at all though. I should mention I've had a lot of problems with MSN today on my VM connection. I ended up using a HTTP proxy to my France server to get onto MSN this evening.

Thanks a mil, I just went on the QoS page and the option Wi-Fi Multimedia Settings was enabled which gives higher priority to video and audio traffic, after disabling that YouTube and WLM run fine together :)

Glad you found the problem! :)
