my stats?
 

Are my power levels fine, and is there anymore of the information available that would be useful to someone who has a clue what they all mean? :)

cheers bud, what should it be at?

i phoned em and got an ENGLISH person... cant believe it.

they wonderered how i knew, so just told em an employee told me it was too high. lol

they agreed it was too high, and that a supervisor will come around next wednesday between 12-4 to do whatever they do.

should it be similar to my downstream one? ... -5.65?

if so, its wayyyy out.

also, what does a high upstream power level actually do to the connection?

Upstream ideally in the mid 40's

It can cause loss of connection and slow speeds..

Downstream should be as near to 0 as possible. +/- 5dBmV is the tolerance level.
SNR should be above 30dB. Any lower will cause issues.
Upstream should be between 40-50dBmV.

well, the engineer came.

hes bumped up my downstream power level from -5 to 8.79

and lowered my upstream from 58.21 to 46.50

he said its fine now.

If all your Downstreams are around 8/9 you may well have more issues as that is now to high for 50Mb, keep an eye on it and if you have any more issues call the 50Mb Support line on 0800 052 0431.

Why do some engineers not know the basic information like proper signal levels? Makes me wonder sometimes... :rolleyes:

I believe the 50Mbps modem is even fussier about signal levels than the lower tier modems...

Hiya, just wondering if you might be able to offer me a little advice please.

i'm on 10mb broadband with virgin media and at first it was great with good speeds, however recently (last couple of months) it's gotten progresively slower until now it can take minutes just to load simple webpages.

after reading this forum i was hoping you might cast your eyes over my modem stats as i think some of what's been said here might apply to me.

i have spoken to tech support once and they basically said the problem was mine even though i've bought all new cables and tested two different computers (one brand new and top spec) as well as a laptop, and have tested with and without my wireless router.

i've also done ping tests through cmd prompt and don't appear to be getting any packet loss.

Your downstream SNR: 27.4 is too low.

Downstream is too high, it should be +/- 5dBmV
SNR is very borderline, it should be over 30dB

You need to call customer support and get a tech arranged. It won't cost you anything as the service is at fault.
