Picture & Sound freeze
Hi, I'm new to the forum but have been reading and learning for a while.
Recently, whilst watching Discovery and Nat Geo (and others) I have been experiencing picture & sound freeze. Really bad watching Mythbusters last night! I've got a couple of things going on in my area (Knowsely, ex Telewest) at the moment.... Digital switch-off in November, torrential rain last night. My questions......... 1. Does VM use satellite feeds for the likes of Discovery and Nat Geo and then distribute them via cable to us? Would this account for picture and sound freeze in bad weather (just like Sky)? 2. Could it be congestion on the network? 3. I've reset my HD box, turned it off, waited etc.(early hours of the morning) but still it freezes and does nothing for what seems like 20-30 seconds then it suddenly kicks in and proceeds with all the commands I've impatiently input. I'm aware of the 'sleep mode function' but is there any way of stopping this annoying delay? |
Re: Picture & Sound freeze
i'm having the same issue though seems to be on every channel

Re: Picture & Sound freeze
VM do use satellite feeds for those channels, but with 3 metre dishes it is very rare for weather to affect them. I think you have a signal fault on your cable, and you should give VM a call.
ps. Welcome to the forum! |
Re: Picture & Sound freeze
I had a similar problem a few months back after a call I think they strengthened the signal and no problems since.

Re: Picture & Sound freeze
i just found this forum today after looking online for help with my virgin cable tv reception. it's been freezing in sound and picture since sunday night. i note that 'invisibleboy' who has been having the same fault lives in brighton. so do i, so hopefully it's an area fault not an individual fault. i spent last night fiddling with the cable, to no avail.
as i type, as 6pm, it seems to have fixed itself. |
Re: Picture & Sound freeze
Thanks for the replies,
seems OK tonight, but no rain.......hmm! Maybe it's sunspot activity? Not sure what to make of it but if it happens again I'll give Virgin a call as recommended. |
