Upgrading Broadband with Minimal Hassle
I've been with Virgin Media (originally NTL) now for around 5 years. I currently have the Broadband M and TV L package, paying £27.50 a month (which started off at £20 and gradually went up and up since VM bought out NTL).
Anyway, cutting to the point, i've come to the point where I want faster broadband, and would like to do this without any charges or any engineers coming out to visit me. Can this be done? I've looked at the packages, and this one seems right for me. http://allyours.virginmedia.com/webs...ct.do?id=11025 I've run through the upgrade process and the site seems to want me to pay for installation, which I don't see is fair seeing as I don't think I will need any installation. Surely they don't have to come and install the wireless router for me? Also, I'm debating moving on to pastures new next summer with my girlfriend, possibly to an area not covered by cable, which we would almost certainly change to O2 broadband. Would I still have to sign the 12 month contract? I think that would be a bit unfair seeing as i've been a customer for 5 years. |
Re: Upgrading Broadband with Minimal Hassle
Best way to upgrade is phone Customer Services. The upgrade site online is very broken :(
You wouldn't have to resign a new 12 months as you already have both the TV and BB - unless they offer you a free router which will recontract the broadband to 12 months ---------- Post added at 17:52 ---------- Previous post was at 17:50 ---------- Although it may not be worth doing if you don't want the router - you will soon be getting a free upgrade to 10Mbit anyway |
Re: Upgrading Broadband with Minimal Hassle
As you identified, BB L and TV L is £31 per month as a bundle but, as Ben says, you will soon get your BB M upgraded to 10Mb and be paying the same charges as today. The main difference between BB M 10 Mb and BB L 10 Mb, other than the price, is the lower STM limits on the M product.

Re: Upgrading Broadband with Minimal Hassle
Oh right that's wicked. :) Does anybody know when the 10Mb upgrade will be happening, or is it region dependant?
I think I shall just hold on. I'm not overly fussed about a new router, though my Linksys BEFW11S4 is getting on a bit and I don't think it's the best router in the world anyway... The main reason for my upgrade is that i'm occasionally finding myself go over the threshold, and then my internet becomes pretty much unusable even for just web browsing. |
Re: Upgrading Broadband with Minimal Hassle
I think the current timescale is between now and the end of November for all BB M customers to be on 10Mbit

Re: Upgrading Broadband with Minimal Hassle
Thanks mate. Oooh not long. I think I shall definitely hang fire until then. The upstream is 512K too which is good. :)
