Powerline networking - pro's & con's
I'm interested in possibly setting this up. Anyone here already done this? Good or bad?
Cheers.;) |
Re: Powerline networking - pro's & con's
Pros: It works really well, is very simple and rock solid. You also get wireless extenders. Go through the powerlines where needed and go wireless after that.
Cons: Don't expect great speeds. I've got a set that are rated at 85mbps, but don't get much more than 15 mbps throughput. Newer models have are rated at 200mbps (IIRC), but I don't know what throughput they achieve. Price. Last time I looked, they weren't very cheap. If you don't need super fast speeds and want reliability, I'd go for it. |

I am about to invest in some soon at home due to where I have equipment now and its easier to use these than route CAT5 everywhere. Belkin do a 1GB set!
I am looking to implement this at my Dad's work at some point, office is 80m away from the house so rather than running cable we are going to try these out. |

It very much depends on the quality of the electrics throughout the building.
