Moving house - Different area code - Need to keep phone number!

Hi all,

I'm moving house shortly from the 01582 to 01525 area. Needless to say, I can't keep my current 01582 phone number when I move. The problem is that I use this line for business as I work from home and it's on a lot of adverts etc.

I rang VM but they told me they can't divert the old 01582 number to the new 01525 one and can't even put a message on the line to say the number has been changed (I was under the impression this was possible).

Is there any way I can keep the 01582 number active in some shape or form and have it diverting through to the new 01525 number so I don't lose any potential business?

Sorry there is no way to do it on a Residential service. Once the account disconnects the number stops working

You could move it to Vonage.

Have a look at the first question. The basic Vonage plan (UK Calls only) is cheaper than VM's Talk Unlimited plan by around £2 per month. So it could pay its way.

Vontage suck.. end of :)

You can't port your number, if you are in a different area code. It's just physically impossible.

Not my experience of Vonage, and because you can port it to Vonage your statement is incorrect.
