If I create restore discs for my laptop then delete the restore partition...

...will the restore DVDs be able to cope with the fact that my disc is now 1x300Gb and not 1x286gb and 1x14gb?

It's a Sony VAIO.

I would like to know that I can restore to factory settings if absolutely necessary but don't see the need to waste all that disc space.

Thanks.

I believe so, but I can't be 100% sure. I did just that on my laptop. The data stored on the DVDs are only what's on the laptop. Not how much space is free. I created my own restore discs, then reduced the partition to 40GB from 100GB and implemented the discs, and it worked.

Okay, thanks.

It's not the end of the world if it might not work. It would just take more time to get things back to where they were.

I think these restore CD's /DVD bring it back factory defaults - i.e. if you had some partitons that had the restore info in them it will restore them as well.

If you run all the disks for a recovery they should return the PC to the point they were created, when we use them at work they restore partitions etc.

My HP doesnt restore partitions when doing a factory reset.

Personally I wouldnt remove\delete the restore partition, there only a few GB and if your disc's go for a walk\damaged you'll have to go through the rigmarole of getting restore disc's from Sony which would be a PITA.
