Could someone point me to the best wireless router for Virgin cable around £50 or so, thanks :angel:

What do you think about this make and model ? Netgear N WNR2000 Wireless-N Router

That is the model that is being given out free by Virgin to 50Mb customers, I am using one now and slowly but surely I am wishing I could plug my WRT54GL back in but it won't cope with 50mb. :(

The other model that Virgin are giving out is the D-Link DIR615.

Avoid the WNR2000 and the DIR-615 - so many bad experiences with both!

Go get a Linksys - someone will recommend one that works with 50meg.

I have no problems with the Netgear at all . Do not want it to do anything fancy works just fine

Thanks for replying, Nothing fancy but I would like it to be fast as possible and stable with a good range.

Would this be any good LinkSys WAP54G

That is just a Wireless Access Point, it is used to connect to an already established wireless network.

What VM connection speed are you using?, 10Mb, 20Mb or 50Mb?

I'd recommend: Linksys WRT54GL (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/103185)

I have one, and it's an excellent router. It has a very nice interface, which can be flashed to a DD-WRT or TOMATO operating system (Linux based). They offer better configuration setups.

You need a wireless router (DSL/Cable). The one I linked in an earlier post will suffice, unless you want wireless 'N'.

Do I need wireless N will that future proof or improve the wireless router ? thanks.

You certainly don't 'need' it, though it's future proof. Wireless N has been around for a while, though only recently acknowledged. It is the fastest type of wireless at the moment, and likely to stay like that for a while.

If you want 'N', your router and ALL wireless devices you want fast wireless speeds on must have wireless N capabilities.

If you try and transfer PC-to-PC, one PC is N, the router is N, but the other PC is G...then it can only go the speeds of G...because that's the slowest. It can't go any faster than it's slowest.

In summary, don't buy a wireless N router, unless you have wireless N devices to capitalise on it.

thank you very much for your advice I appreciate it, I have been talking to someone else and I already have a wired Linksys router so could I add a Linksys wireless Hot Spot to it ?

If so could you recommend one ?

If you already have an adequate router, and want to extend the range or boost the signa strength of your wireless, then you'll need an access point. Such as the Linksys WAP54G you mentioned in an earlier post.
