802.11n finally ratified by IEEE

So that means officially it's not "draft spec" anymore

Finally... but just how many manufacturers are gonna push firmware/driver updates for their draft-N capable devices?

I can't believe it took them 5 years from the first devices pushing the technology in the mainstream to getting full ratification. It's taking ages for proper ratification of the long-range wireless networking.

I like this bit:

Quote:

But without the IEEE's approval, there were no guarantees that future networking equipment would be compatible with the devices.
I've lost count of the amount of IEEE approved wifi devices i've had trouble with working together.

Just because they're ratified to an international standard doesn't mean Belkin and Netgear will continue to shaft their customers trying to get the devices working seamlessly.
