Laptop Temperatures
My grandsons HP G6000 laptop is overheating and shutting down to protect itself. I've installed speedfan and it shows the following results when idling on the desktop
GPU 70c HD 43c F1(If I remember correctly) 45c Core Temp 73c Any activity sends the GPU and Core Temps over 80c and then it shuts down. There is only one fan as far as I know and I can hear it running. The laptop is out of warranty Is the fan running under speed? or is their another problem as I thought the F1 referred to the processor which the fan is above. |
Re: Laptop Temperatures
Hmmm... could it be the battery?

Re: Laptop Temperatures
Maybe dust clogging up the cooling system. I've seen it a few times in the past. Can you see much dust sticking out of the exhaust ports?

Re: Laptop Temperatures
It could be a variety of things
Dust Clogging up the Fans Dust clogging up the exhaust Is it on his lap etc? I've seen people, put a cushion underneath a laptop, and blocked the exhaust with a cushion.. What is he doing, when it shuts down, i.e gaming or just browsing the net etc |

When he goes on youtube or starts gaming the GPU temp goes up, the F1 and Hard Drive stay about 45c. I've put it on a table and pointed a desk fan at the comp and the GPU temp goes down but once you do anything on the net it goes back up. |
Re: Laptop Temperatures
Yeah, sounds like a dust build up to me.

Re: Laptop Temperatures
I had some issues with my HP 6200. Sent it back and they updated the bios which I believe made the fan run more often.

Re: Laptop Temperatures
You would still need to remove the rear cover (and possibly the keyboard) as blowing compressed air inside a machine just going to coat the insides with dust, as there aren't many vents on the HPs.

Re: Laptop Temperatures
You may even need to reapply the thermal paste on the CPU, but this requires taking the laptop half apart and would void any warranty.
CPU can easily reach 80*c with no ill effects. GPU can easily reach 90-100*c with no ill effects. HD on laptops can reach 40-50*c but there is nothing you can do about that. Best keeping it below 30*c IF you can. |
Re: Laptop Temperatures
My Nephew had overheating issues on his lappy. I blew air everywhere i could find but as i a not confident about taking them apart got him yo but a cooler.
http://cool-and-quiet.co.uk/Notebook...op_Cooler.html Seems to have cured his problem and a sub £20.00 fix happy days. Perhaps something similar would help? |

I thought about the cooling mat but decided it wouldn't be a solution but would just mask the problem. Thanks to all for your replies. |
