WRT54GS Unable to connect to Modem after power down
I have WRT54GS Router attached to my Cable modem has worked fine for last 2 1/2 years until this week. I switch everything off in evening, PC, Router & Modem, the next time I power up, I am unable to connect to modem via router either wired or wirelessly. The only way I can get it to work is to go through the router install process, then it works until the next time, I have gone back to factory settings, but makes no difference. Any ideas?

Have you tried a "hard" reset using the wee button at the back?

Done that. I think I have tried every combination now.

Re: WRT54GS Unable to connect to Modem after power down
I just started to use a WRT54G2 V1. I have an XP desktop using a wired connection and a vista laptop on wireless. Initially everything was hunky dory but then I started to occasionally lose the internet connection. This got worse and worse until the internet connection was being dropped everytime the computers were switched off.
I cloned the mac of the wired desktop and haven't seen the issue since. |
Re: WRT54GS Unable to connect to Modem after power down
I have reset the router using button back. Downloaded new fireware and resinstalled, which included cloning Mac Address of wired PC. Only way I can get router to work is to power on this sequence, Cable Modem then Router, then either Wired PC or Wirlesss laptop, usually works after a couple of attempts. Problem seems to lie with router.

Re: WRT54GS Unable to connect to Modem after power down
I've had exactly the same problem (same router) prior to this it had worked fine for years.
In my case, it turned out that the Router could not obtain the DNS Servers automatically from Virgin. So I changed the Router settings to obtaim OpenDNS Servers (see here) and everything works perfectly now after power downs. I have no idea why this suddenly happened .... I suspect Virgin's DNS Servers may have issues. Hope this helps |
