Ebay problem
 

I've just bid for an item and won the bid.

I paid through PayPal and it's gone through and I have a receipt from PayPal in my inbox.

However the seller has now said that PayPal is now refusing payment until I offer 'positive' feedback.

I queried the seller who now has suggested would I be prepared to to leave positive feedback so the funds can be released and they can post my item to me..

What does everyone think?

The seller is talking BS.

It makes me wonder what his reason is. I'd open up a dispute stating that the seller is refusing to dispatch the goods.

I sold some laptops on eBay and took payment via PayPal - paypal freeze the funds automatically on "high risk" items. They did this to me. I purswaded clients to leave feedback first of cvourse it was a a risk.

Would a slowcooker be considered a high risk item? It is only £24 including P&P

Surely the seller can see that Paypal has received the payment, that should be good enough for him to post the item and you to leave feedback once received.

A similar thing happened a while back the item was paid for twice on 2 separate occasions but never arrived and I opened and won 2 separate disputes against the same person.

Seller now says that they will send the item but is going to forward the PayPal email to show me.

Well why couldn't they just send the item and see what happened unless the item isn't as described.

I've been buying stuff for all sorts of sums and no one has asked me to leave positive feedback before receiving the item.That would be foolish.

Leaving feedback before you receive the item isn't the way it's supposed to work. It's in place to protect you the buyer from a seller who doesn't meet certain criteria. The money will be released after you've left +ve feedback and not raised a dispute.

The most common instances in which a payment may be held from a seller are:

* You have been on eBay less than six months and sell an item above £50.
* You have a feedback score of less than 98% and sell an item above £50.
* More than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers*.
* You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 4.5 or less.
* You have received less than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings.
* You are listing your item in a higher-risk category.

Presumably your slow cooker seller falls foul of one of these.

No way, you should wait until the item is delivered and you have checked it before leaving feedback.

No way should anyone be required to leave feedback before receipt. After all part of the feedback is the manner in which the item is despatched. Even if you do get the item, now that they have tried to hold you to ransom, you're probably going to be disinclined to give a good rating :(

Ebay changed some rules a little while back regarding paypal. My friend had this exact problem but he was the seller. Paypal held the funds and would not release to him and he didnt know why. After a phonecall to paypal he was told It was to do with feedback and clicking the Sent mail button.

Very silly but to cut a long stroy short no you should never leave feedback before getting your item. He/she will be able to see the funds in his/her paypal account but wont be able to access them yet.
