You can ask them to turn off it off you know. It's a hangover from one of the older systems - when your broadband was billed seperately

I think of it as a bit of a fail safe. If for some reason I was unable to access my online bill at least I would get this through the post!

But you still get charged the £1.25 paper bill charge if you get the VAT bill - because it is on paper ;)

Err..no I don't. Can't comment for anyone else though:D

I used to get both paper invoice type bill and a vat receipt a few weeks later.
I opted out of paper billing (in the days when you opted out rather than in) and have continued to receive the vat bill. I just assumed it was some sort of legal thing. Don't care if I continue getting it or not

Well you should be getting charged - so if it does appear at somepoint you will know why

Oh, right, does that mean that people who have a paper bill still and also get the Vat receipts pay for two paper bills? I have OPTED OUT of paper billing, if VM choose to continue sending me a VAT receipt which I have NEVER requested thats up to them isn't it?

No you would get one Paper bill charge.

As I said - the only reason most people get a VAT receipt is because of hangover from seperate B/B billing (it was the only way to make that system send paper bills). When they all got merged Virgin couldn't tell who did and who didn't want the VAT bills, so left them on for everyone who had them
