PC/Router Problem Netgear WGR614 HELP!
About 2 weeks everything was working okay, I had the computer connected via ethernet cable to the router which in turn was connected to the modem, no problems since I got the router about a year ago.
Then the internet stopped working, I fiddled about but couldn't get it working. Then I removed the router from the setup and bang it started working fine. Put the router back in not working again. So I took the router to a friends house who has Virgin and connected the router up in their setup and it worked fine. Next I phoned the helpline and spoke to some nice Indian chap he went through everything step by step then said every thing is okay with your modem, it must be your DHCP, you need to fix it, take it to the shop you got your computer. I put the computer together myself from parts i bought so I can't do that. I really want to get the router working again as its the summer holidays and my Daughter can't get on the web from her PC in the bedroom. Any Ideas? ---------- Post added at 21:25 ---------- Previous post was at 21:14 ---------- Sorry I put this in the wrong place , shouldn't be in the webspace e-mail and Browsing issues sub forum should be in the main Virgin media internet services bit, can a mod move it please? Thanks |

If your computer works fine connected directly to the modem there's nothing wrong with your DHCP.
Pinhole reset the router back to factory settings. Open your web browser, you should get a setup page asking you to create SSID and passphrase, also change the channel from 6 to 1 or 11. Apply the settings then your daughter's should be able to connect with the new info you've given the router. Also after connecting the router onto the modem turn off the modem and router, turn modem back on wait for the lights to settle then turn on the router. |

Re: PC/Router Problem Netgear WGR614 HELP!
Have you tested using a different ethernet cable? Or a different ethernet port on the router?
If you connect the modem and router the way they should be and you log into the router going to router status then connection status, what IP address do you see there? |

Re: PC/Router Problem Netgear WGR614 HELP!
Firstly, can you edit your post and remove the last 3 digits of your IP address and the last 2 of default gateway.
The router is getting a valid IP address, technically this means you should be able to browse the web. If you can't browse can you ping or traceroute? |
Re: PC/Router Problem Netgear WGR614 HELP!
If I might just come in here....
I had exactly the same thing two weeks ago and agonised in the same way for 24 hours - tried everything. The router reported connected to the internet all the IP addresses etc were there. But no internet. It was solved by switching the cable modem off for 3 minutes (if you've got patience longer) which sort of told the VM end that the lease offer had been tgerminated. When I reconnected, I got a fresh offer and it all sprang to life. Hope that helps you. |

Okay
I tried turning the modem off for 10 mins then restarting it with the router but no change, ho hum. Also, Why can't I edit my above post, mind you that's not my IP address any more. |
Re: PC/Router Problem Netgear WGR614 HELP!
Did you get another valid ip?
Again can you ping or traceroute? |

Re: PC/Router Problem Netgear WGR614 HELP!
OK just a geneal query, is your ethernet on PC nvidia based? Had similar problem. Seems to be a bug with W614 and Nvidia Ethernet, try using a different LAN port on W614.
