Email problems...

Hi All,

I am getting the following as an error when tring to send email through Outlook

"The server responded: 421 aamtaout04-winn.ispmail.ntl.com connection refused from [85.235.244.194]" :mad:

I noted there were similar issues on a thread last year - did anyone get an answer for this from VM at that time, or is there a setting that needs to be changed in my account settings in Outlook?

Cheers,

Gil.
BTW as you can see I am na ntl person - have I missed VM moving everyone to a visrgin-media account :dozey:

No you will be notified during the next 12 months when the change in your area is ready to roll.

Not heard about that... Going to be losing @ntlworld.com then? Good job I'm switching all my e-mails to 3rd party web mail provider then.

Existing customers will then be migrated across to the new service at no extra cost and will be able to keep their existing @blueyonder.co.uk, @ntlworld.com or @virgin.net email addresses or choose to sign up for new @virginmedia.com email addresses

I for one am keeping my @blueyonder.co.uk email addy as I use it for to many things and to change would be a lot of hassle.

Yeah, could be a hassle. Had my @ntlworld addy since 1999 and used it for everything. Recently began changing to GMX webmail though.

You can only 'send' from a VM connection. According to 'whois', 85.235.244.194 is allocated to a Danish company! Are you in Denmark, or using a proxy service of some sort?

Even if you opt to go for a Virgin Media e-mail address, your blueyonder one will still work.

So if someone sends an e-mail to joe.bloggs@blueyonder.co.uk, it still goes to the joe.bloggs@virginmedia.com Inbox. {Providing they were on Blueyonder before}

Your problem is your IP address.

You are trying to connect to smtp.ntlworld.com on a non VM IP address. Just change your smtp server settings to those of your ISP.

EDIT: Apologies didn't see Sir John's post. - Same as he says. :)
