Setting up a Netgear WAP with cable modem?
Hi - I've tried setting up a Netgear WAP (WG602) connected to the Virgin cable modem with no joy. Can anyone suggest how I need to configure the WAP to communicate with the modem.
Thanks. |

:welcome:,
Have you switched both the modem and the access point off, switched the modem back on, waited for the lights to settle and then switched the router on? Ben :) |
Re: Setting up a Netgear WAP with cable modem?
It is a wireless access point not a router. It does not have a Wan port
You will need to go modem to wired router and then lan out to the access point to send out wireless signals |

Thanks for the replies.
Zing - I thought I could connect the WAP to the modem with an ethernet cable and get wireless that way. I didn't think I'd need a router as well? |

well TBH access points is something ive only used when part of an existing network. From what I can see you have to allocated a 192.168.*.* ip address to the access point meaning somewhere along the way you need a DHCP server.
I do not have experience but you may be able to set it to your external ip and perhaps gain web access with one machine but I do not know. I had a good look through the manual and set up of your AP and there is no way in there |
