Ebay Fraudster at it yet again

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8156754.stm

I have lost count now how any times he has been caught and sentenced, I think he had 12 months youth detention and then a few suspended sentences. The last time was in August 2008 when he was jailed for 24 months.

Apparently he served around 6 months of that sentence and today has been sentenced for 30 months for his latest crimes.

I seem to recall that the second or third time he was caught and sentenced he had one child, his defence used the excuse that he was a changed person since becoming a father.

He was a piece of **** as a teenager when he lived in Pontypool before being convicted the first time, I have relatives who lived by his family and knew him well.

Interesting that the judge jailed him previously to protect the public, was he released because he was no longer a threat or because of prison overcrowding.

What are the odds that he will be out, re-offend, and be back in prison before the current 30 month sentence is up!

OTT? Maybe.

How about giving his full name and address to everyone he's ripped off and let them make their own arrangements..

Why not just give him an injuntion to keep off the internet (they do that to people in the US when computers have been used to perpatrate the crime)

In August 2008, Mr James said, Shortman was jailed for 24 months for a further five counts of obtaining property by deception through eBay.
August 2008 + 24 months gets me to August 2010.

Unless of course he was released early to avoid overcrowding and saying
"Yeah I've learnt my lesson boss. I won't do it again. By the way where is the nearest internet cafe?"

People who do this sort of stuff in the states have their equivalent to the social services involved to make sure that the kids are not being affected or taught that this kind of stuff is acceptable.

Phaps they should do this sort of thing here.

I understand he was released approx early October 2008 and committed his first (new wave) offence in November 2008

A very quick 24 months as you point out!

I will give the justice system the benefit of the doubt and assume he was on remand for a good few months before sentencing in Aug 08.

Even then its clear he has a pattern of repeat offending. Surely when it comes to early release and parole they should look at past history before letting them out. From the looks of things he hasn't attempted to go straight. All he has done has tried to cover his tracks a bit better by pretending the tickets were nicked by the postie.

I dread to think what punishment you'd suggest for a murderer or rapist.

Is it common practice to remand someone for these types of crimes? although as you say he must have been as he didnt even serve half his sentence otherwise

If that was the punishment for theft then why shouldn't he go on a murder/raping spree too?

The guy is clearly an idiot who has to serve his full sentence this time.
