Router setup

I just purchased a NEWlink 5 port router, to run multiple XP PCs and a PS3. Whichever I switch on first seems to bypass the router and take sole control of the 255 modem directly resulting in the next item being unable to find an IP address.

I am in an ex NTL C&W area.

Hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

Re: Router setup

oops, you bought a hub instead of a router. Can you exchange it?

Re: Router setup

As nash has indicated you have a hub and not a router.

Did you not opt for a wireless router when you signed up?

There are lots of 3rd party router recommendations on the Networking board here on the Cable Forum.

I personally use a Linksys WRT54GS.

Hope this helps :)

Ah, that would explain a lot, it wasnt expensive. I am gunna try and do it the right way around this time, can anyone suggest a suitable wired router, at a reasonable price.

Thanks.
