Help please Buffalo wireless and virgin cable

Hi everyone, Complete novice in the wirelessy type tinterweb stuff lol
Trying to get a buffalo wireless-n whrg300n wireless router to work with virgin. I plugged it in installed the software etc and get to a stage where it requires pppoe and dhcp settings. Now here in is where the problem lies apparently I have neither and my old router didnt require these (netgear) If anyone could shed some light on it for me or point me in the direction that would be great.
Thanks
Andy

Sounds like you have a ADSL router, which is no good for a cable connection

Should also be in Networking

Can you choose 'Dynamic' as the connection type?

I does ask for the dchp stuff which is the dynamic but for some reason still wants some password type stuff which i thought was bizarre.

Are you using a CD to configure it or are you logged straight into the router?

Using the cd but I can log into the router directly and edit settings. Its just cant get the internet through it if that makes sence.

Log in directly & run the wizard. It should pick up all the settings automatically according to the manual...

Look for an option that says the connection does not require a login, or something similar, because it doesn't and the router is trying to log in.

Re: Help please Buffalo wireless and virgin cable

All I did with my buffalo wireless router was unplug my cable modem for 2hrs and then after 2hrs connect the router and plug the modem back in. After that it was all working and I could get the net wired without any messings, only thing I had to do was set security up for the wireless.

Have you used a router before with your cable? If you have you will definately need to unhook the modem for an hr or two so it refreshes itself.

Most wireless routers have the wireless option disabled.
