Ethernet port wireless adapters
Bit of a stretch, but I'm hoping something exists. :)
Is there a wireless adapter that isn't USB and connects up to the network port of, say, a non-wireless router? |
Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
yeh they exist. Ive seen plenty of them.
What they are called though... now thats another matter. |
Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
They generally are designed to work the other way around. Connect a non-wireless PC to a wireless router
They are these http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=...pter&scoring=r |
Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
What you are after is called a wireless repeater.

Wireless Bridge Actually, but getting hold of one is a different matter, I've not seen one to buy in a long time

Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
I saw that one but it's expensive and out of stock :(
|
Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
It probably cheaper most of the time just to get a new router

Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
I use an Edimax EW-7206APG as a wireless bridge for my X360 and it works a treat.
Could easily be used as an access point as well. |
Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
I have a solution that I think works but I don't have access to the equipment at the moment so I can't check for sure.
1) Buy a Sky (Netgear) DG934G ADSL modem/router on ebay for about £5 2) Reprogram it back to a Netgear DG834G version 3 using these instructions 3) Switch off its DHCP server, fix it's own IP address and set up the wireless parameters 4) Leave the 'line' port disconnected 5) Attach up to 4 devices to the switch ports |

Re: Ethernet port wireless adapters
I think what I'm after is an access point. I already have the router, it just doesn't have wireless connectivity.
