Problems with Actiontec Router

Hi, I hope I've posted this in the correct place - so if I haven't I apologise in advance. Anyway have spent over 12 hrs trying to resolve this. I connect to internet via Actiontec Router & NTL Home modem - until yesterday mrng eveything was working fine.

Then all of a sudden I could no longer access 3 of my own domains (hosting servers in US) to download web-mail - other sites no problem. Although if I connect directly via ethernet cable it works fine. With the assistance of my brother who used to be a computer engineer we've tried numerous things. Re-installing the Actiontec Firmware - although slightly dated @ 2003! Re-booted various ways. It seems to be an issue with the DNS - we get a different DNS when connecting via router to when connecting via Lan/Ethernet cable - i.e. directly to modem.

I have an added problem since my modem/router is loacted in my attic. Think I might need to bin the ActionTec router & buy a new router (not Actiontec) but don't want to do that if problem is omething else. Just curious if someone has come across this before. There is absolutely nothing on Virgin web site for these symptons - apart from saying 'Probably site is down'.

One other thing I frequently lose broadband sometimes (2/3 times in 1 day) connection Hoping someone has a miracle cure - thanks in anticipation.

It's not really the appropriate section unless Virgin supplied your router. It sounds like it is the cause of your problem, perhaps you should check the manufacturer's website to see if this is a common problem?

Before giving up try this link and set a proxy it may work.

Well of course - although it was NTL actually before Virgin took them over & things went downhill. Issue still not resolved - probably will have to get a new router - although problem might still remain!
