USB problem

Hi guys,

I recently borrowed an 8gb flash drive from a friend but when I double click on it to open it, it just says please insert disk, any ideas what might me wrong? I have three flash drives of my own and they work fine.

Could be that the USB Stick is corrupted and/or failing

I have this sometimes and have not got to the bottom of it yet. The only way round it I've found is to go into the Hardware Manager and uninstall the driver for the USB stick. Then remove the stick, wait a bit and insert it again. The driver is reinstalled and the stick found correctly.

Try it in another socket. If it still doesn't work, it's probably a dead or dying USB stick (as Madgamer says).

Are you connecting it to a USB hub or direct to main USB socket?

I have this with a USB stick, and it won't work in any USB port in any PC.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling it, even reformating and planned to use softwrae that can recover data lost through reformatting, but still dead.

The light on my stick still flashes though.
