Gigabit router
Hi All
I was under the impression that I would be getting a gigabit router when my internet was installed, Not the case.:erm: Any recommendations for a good Gigabit router to use with the modem. I am on 50meg service. Cheers. |
Re: Gigabit router
Is it only 100mbps? O_o
I would recommend anything by Netgear (which the VM router is) or Linksys, but I can't recommend any particular models. Then again I wouldnt expect the manufacturers to have many wireless routers with gigabit and no adsl modem... |
Re: Gigabit router
There aren't many routers out there with gigabit built-in but they do exist. Why not save yourself some money and just buy a gigabit switch then plug that into your current router?
|
Re: Gigabit router
Thanks for the replies, I will have a look round and see what there is.

Re: Gigabit router
I'm happy with the Linksys WRT610N. Bit pricey though, especially if you don't need the USB storage connection.
Why have a separate switch if you can get a router to do what you need. You're just adding to your power consumption by having two devices, even if that power use is small. |
Re: Gigabit router
Beware the latest Netgear routers are nails avoid

Re: Gigabit router
As an aside to this question.
What happens if/when Virgin go 100/150meg plus?. I think getting a Gigabit router makes sense all round and has some future proofing at the same time. |
Re: Gigabit router
Just got this router, magic... Link
Take a hammer to the Netgear and save yourself a lot of bother. |
Re: Gigabit router
Are netgear really that bad?
I've never had a problem with my Sky supplied router, or the one I use on Be Internet. What problem are common with netgear?. |
Re: Gigabit router
the firmware is flakey in the new models it will be sorted but avoid for now. I found a nice D Link of ebuyer for a ton looks like it fits the bill

Re: Gigabit router
Decisions decisions.
Looks like people are leaning to D-Link, My mate had a D-link and hated every minute of it, It was an older one though. |
Re: Gigabit router
i got a belkin n1 vision which has gigabit connection and am happy with it
|
Re: Gigabit router
Ok, So it's either Belkin or D-Link.
---------- Post added at 17:52 ---------- Previous post was at 16:11 ---------- I have ordered the D-Link 655. It seems to be getting brilliant reviews everywhere I look. Cheers. |
