Customising Folders

Is there any way of hacking into xp to change the default folder icon? I got sick of individually customising last time I reformatted, and I don't like using the programs you can download to change the look of your folders.

Thanks.

Hmm, interesting but I specifically asked if there was a way to do it without downloading any programs, thanks anyway.

Yes, and the answer provided specifically said no you can't, not without third party utilities.

So you got an answer, just not the one you were looking for:).

Actually the answer didn't specifically say no, but, again, thanks anyway. BTW I tried the first hit on the google link and it didn't work.

I've not tried that sort of thing for years. I was heavily into customising windows at one point in time, now i'm pretty much a "use it as I find it" sort.

For some reason Vista doesn't have the option to show seperate icons for "open" or "closed" folders... or am I a bit thick at the moment?

Thanks.

Inside the folder you want to change put a JPG image in it with the filename with out quotes "folder.jpg", when you view the folder in thumbnail mode you get the "new" image.

I do this to all my folders.
