Disk Read Error
 

Hello... i have a PC that when it boots it gives a error Saying Verifying DMI Pool data and under it it says a disc error occured press Ctrl alt Del to restart.

Any ideas whats wrong?

I used to have that when I had a failing hard drive. Have you had it freezing randomly on you at all as well ?

Have you added any new hardware recently?

Either the HDD is goosed, or the MBR is corrupted or something.

I took the HDD out and put a spare in and that worked. But the PC can see the old HDD so i think i need a proper OS disc to reinstall.

what OS?

Boot from OS cd whatever you are using of you have one.

XP when it finds OS select recovery console ( not at the install stage) try fixmbr and fixboot commands try it. If no good try bootcfg /rebuild

Vista just boot from the dvd until it gives the option under install for repair my computer and try the start up repair
