Acer Aspire 8930G-864G64Bn
Hi guys ok first of all i am a complete ignorant on laptops so i might be missing something really simple. My daughter has bought the titled laptop and when the mains power is connected it gets to the account login screen on vista and when an account is clicked the screen just dies.
Now if i boot in safe mode i can get into any of the accounts and there isn't a problem likewise if i disconnect mains power and just power up off the battery again no problem. If i power up off the battery and then connect mains power screen goes off. Now couple of things given all this am i right to assume the screen is fine and the problem lies elsewhere and also if it only happens when not using safe mode is there a chance they screwed something up in the pre delivery inspection. Also might a system reset back to factory settings do the trick ??. I really am at a loss with this and have to get it sorted quickly as my daughter is the type that if it goes on for a week or so she will get completely disillusioned with it and that will cause more problems. Thanks in advance for any help you have to offer on this :). |
Re: Acer Aspire 8930G-864G64Bn
Could be a couple of things.
Could be something as simple as a corruption in the 'Battery Manager' application (or whatever it's called), or it could be that the charging circuit's screwed. Take a look in the battery manager and make sure that the settings don't say to turn the screen off when it's on mains power or something daft like that. The battery manager can normally be reached via the icon in the system tray or via the Control Panel. There should be a scheme in there that tells the laptop when to turn off the screen when it's running on battery/mains. |

Since your safe mode tests have proved that the screen works I'm wondering if the user account is trying to set an incorrect resolution or refresh rate?

Yeah i found the setting for when to turn the display off and set both of them mains and battery to one hour that didn't make a difference. the resolution is what i think is factory default which is 1920x1080 with a refresh rate of 60hz but i will recheck that to be sure :). Thanks for the suggestions guys will go and have another look and recheck everything.

Ok did the rechecking and settings wise i cannot see any reason for it they all seem ok yet the problem persists. Not sure if this answers your point Rob but when plugged in the mains charges the battery fine just doesn't like the screen being on while it does it.

Re: Acer Aspire 8930G-864G64Bn
As it's brand new and faulty out of the box I'd be inclined to fling it back at the supplier at this point.
As you suggested, maybe something missed in quality control. |
Re: Acer Aspire 8930G-864G64Bn
Yeah thats what i am going to do it has to be a fault doesn't make sense otherwise and not sure if i can but going to ask them to send replacement unit when they come to collect faulty one see how that goes. Right now just waiting for my voice to come back to something near normal had a bad dose of flu\cold and most of the time i sound like a squirrel on helium not good when your trying to sound authorative on the phone :). Thanks for the help anyway guys at least i know now it wasn't me being dumb and missing something simple.
