Modem not passing data

Hi all,
I've noticed over the last week or so that our internet connection (10mb-Standalone) keeps dying, not totally as the sync + RDY lights are still lit, but the connection just doesn't want to pass any data.
I did first think it was my netgear router, but i discovered (even directly connected to the modem via ethernet) that you can't access the modems (03/04 Ambit 250) admin pages - ie/opera/FF just errors out.

Rebooting seems to fix this for a while but it's a bit hit or miss for how long the connection stays up, although i have noticed that it mostly seems to "freeze" if i attempt to max the connection out.

Also i did think it might be the modem running a little hot, especially with the recent weather, but it only seems to be a little warm and certainly not hot or anything.

Am i right in thinking that the modem has developed a fault (VMs status page isn't showing any faults in the Bedford area)?

Modem Info -

Downstream Receive Power Level : 3.01 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 32.78 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 58.50 dBmv

Cheers for any help :)

just to add, it seems actually the sync light stays lit and the RDY goes on and off and flashes when the connection drops - would that suggest that theres a fault at VMs/UBR end rather than the modem being duff?

Upstream power is to high, you need a tech.

Power levels are fine, the upstream power is a touch high, but otherwise within acceptable limits, the SNR a bit low but still acceptable. The Ready light dropping on and off isn't a good sign though, the modem could possibly be dying.

Have you tried disconnecting and re-connecting the coax feed into the modem (while it's off of course), and making sure it's tight?

58.5dBmV is not acceptable upstream power, should be 55dBmV or under.

Yup, reconnected and double checked all of the cables.

So need an engineer?

Just to add, what's the most likely cause of the high upstream power level?

Just noticed that since the temperatures have dropped from earlier today, the upstream power level is a lot lower -

Downstream Receive Power Level : 6.47 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 35.67 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 50.50 dBmv

And the connection seems to be pretty solid now. Would this point towards equipment being effected by heat/temperature? And is it still worth phoning tech?

cheers :)

Could be, is the green box at the end of your street or in nearby streets in direct sunlight?
