any issues RG6 area - from eve of 22nd ? + help

I lost connection around 20:00 last night, but not sure if its me or them, since I was fiddleing with router ( adding openDNS) at the time - seems to much of a coincidence that VM should have a problem at same time as I was fiddling - but am at a bit of a loss

reset router (wrt54g) back to factory state - still no connection (on the 1 pc which is hardwired to router)
model ntl250: lights look ok right 2 on steady,
eth and tx light flash a quite few times when trying to access page and rx light just occasional flash

after a while Firefox shows this message in browser when trying for any web page
"
connection interrupted
document contains no data - network link interuppted while negotiaging a connnection
"

I tried connecting modem direct to another laptop (hardwire ethernet) - but still nothing - should that work OK or do I need to make changes setting to laptop IP settings etc ( thinks it on auto ip & dns) - i can't remember pre router days

So I'm thinking it is a VM problem ?

online at work at the moment so need to collect as much info during the day to try again this eve

When you lost connection what happened to the Sync and Ready lights did they go off and start flashing or stay lit not flashing.

When you lose connection you need to check what those lights are doing as above.

Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem. The should be a sticker on the bottom saying what model.

Open a browser and in the address bar put or click the link > http://192.168.100.1/ the password and username are both root if required.

What I want you to post is the Downstream power levels including the SNR and the Upstream power levels for me thanks.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

modem is ntl:250

downstream:
received power -5.4
snr 38.1

upstream:
tx power +41.5

to be clear there is no connection permenantly - its not the case that its coming and going

Also its the rather strange browser error message ( see OP) - I've not seen that one before

power levels appear to be fine so the may be a fault on the uBR you are connected to so a call to Tech Support may be in order who can then check your connection.

ok - i'll do that tonight - thanks

Can anyone throw light on this point please - regarding PC setting when directly connecting modem to PC
i.e.
"tried connecting modem direct to another laptop (hardwire ethernet) - but still nothing - should that work OK or do I need to make changes setting to laptop IP settings etc ( thinks it on auto ip & dns) - i can't remember pre router days"

and I'd like to remove router from equation

To answer my own question

connecting modem direct to the PC - just need to ensure PC's network IP setting are set to obtain both IP + DNS automatically is all you need to get a connection.

Anyway I'm sorted now , it was an issue at my end, as expected really
fix was to do "reset to factory defaults" from internal menu of router, external button didn't seem to do a full reset ?
Then switch it all off to clear any issued IPs etc
restart and away we went

For future reference the button on the back of the router will need to be held for somewhere in the area of 10 seconds until the router gives visual confirmation that it is resetting.
