Re: Dial-up nostalgia!
And if you were with World online or any other over subscribed ISP at the time the dialing would go on for a long time before you finally connected.

Re: Dial-up nostalgia!
Yep...those were the days of having to reconnect every 2-hours with freeserve because they had the 0808 number :) Before that we were with Virgin.net before VM took them over - with the 0845 numbers... My dad would go crazy if he saw those phone bills again!

Re: Dial-up nostalgia!
I used to be with Screaming.net.
We weren't allowed to go on the net until after 6pm as then it became free. |
Re: Dial-up nostalgia!
You youngsters don't know you're born. :D I started 'online' back in about 1989 on BBS with my mate and his Apple Mac. Then I was able to use university computers until about 94 when I got a 28,8 modem and used compuserve. In those days there was no such thing as a lo-call number for ISPs, you had to pay full whack for a local or national number. So your ISP access number was always your 'best friend' on your BT friends and family account.

Re: Dial-up nostalgia!
I first went online around 2000 (not sure, think it was around the time I started at Secondary school) with Freeserve Hometime, only allowed online between 6pm and 8am, got disconnected every 2 hours. I then moved to PlusNet on dial up in 2003, then to broadband around May 2005 as soon as it became available. So I havent been online as long as I have been using a computer.

Being the late starter i am with computers and interweb i never had the pleasure of dial-up.I did once have a commodore 64 as a spotty 15Yr old but no internet.
NTL`s 1Mb STB was my first connection. |
I saw this a couple weeks ago and still wonder: HAS ANYONE FIGURED OUT WHAT # IS DIALED??
