Audio stutter. HELP :(

Right i get this audio stutter when...

Im listening to music, Windows is starting up, or when watching a film, the film sorta slows down. when this happens the cpu is then used for a split second upto 60%

Ive only got 26 processes running, No other un needing junk starts at start up, and there is nothing running in the background which is hoggin the cpu Or memory.

Even on a clean install with all latest drivers it does this. Only does this in XP 32 or 64 bit, Vista however it doesnt  Bios is set to Default incease of iRQ conflicts. It also happens with built in audio or a seperate audio card?

at first i thought it was my memory but ive scanned my memory for passed week with no errors what so ever. ive even used bog standard generics memory, still same problem.

Any ideas?

spec - In sig, except a new mobo dfi X48-t2rsb Plus. & im using win xp pro 64bit

Running a seagate barracuda drive perchance?

Audio stutter was diagnostic of hard drive problems with several of those models.

Tarantellla - No no seagate Hd's there just a waste of money.

Druchii, - Codec's i doubt it. other wise i wudnt hear no sound at all. I get sound perfectly i.e playing a mp3, n then say 20 seconds in it stutters for approx 1 -3 seconds.

anyone recommend a decent memory test other than memtest86 ??

People who ive asked about it say it sounds like a memory problem, yet ive replaced it with no joy.

For some reason im thinking Direct X is playing a part in the fault :-?

any ideas peeps???

DirectX wouldn't cause that problem.

What process is using CPU cycles when the problem happens? An indication of that could point to the cause.

nah cpu is @ 0 - 4 percnet @ very most. ive watched this via taskmanager, whilst playing stuff etc only a sudden spike from the Schost.exe file n thats it.

It never happens in games but does for music and like youtube etc. Driving me nuts:banghead:

At first i thought it was my mobo asus p5Q pro, so got rid of that n got a new one, BUT i still have the same issue.

Cpu is fine, checked it in an old gigabyte board, hd's have been completely llf, and had the MBR wiped and re done. which took forever

mem, as said before tested thats for a while, no probs. I also sent the memory back to the shop incase i missed something but they also said i was fine.

All latest drivers are in, everythings working as it should except for this stutter  i give up with it :dunce:

Ill go back to my old P4 never gave me no probs that machine lol.
