Dual ethernet cable

I've been given an ethernet cable with a dual socket on it and I've been told I can connect both my pc and my ps3 to one cable modem, I thought this type of device was just used to connect 2 pc's together, will it work to connect my pc and ps3 to the internet with one modem?

Any help would be appreciated guys.

Re: Dual ethernet cable

The modem can only speak to one device at a time. A dual ethernet socket by itself will not be enough. You also need a router.
