I think you're confusing the issue somewhat, you would just connect it in the same way as to your old TV, via Scart

no i should have said there is only 1 lead from the sky box (RF outlet) to the new tv however nex to the skybox there is a tv Ariel point

so i was thinking of running a new lead from the ariel point to the splitter put the splitter in the rf outlet & run the excisting one from the splitter to the new tv
cause at the moment there is just a lead from the rf to the new tv

As already suggested a SCART lead is your best option ;) That way you use the antenna for freeview and scart for sky

Other than that I take it the skyboxes don't have RF passthru cable of dealing with digital signals? Also a splitter as you described isn't splitting the signal but actually joining a signal so you'll probablky end up with mega problems trying to do that..

the problem there is that the tv is about 30 feet from the ariel & skybox

Would it work &if i ran from the ariel to the Rf in in the Skybox -RF out to the TV ?? Obvi not both on at the same time

Depends on the box, not all older STB's/Vids/PVR are designed to let through the digital signals.. All you can do is to give it a try
