Samsung and new TV issue
Hi All.
Yesterday, I installed a new TV/Monitor. It's a Foehn & Hirsch FH-22LMG. Every thing was fine for the first few hours, the TV recognised the scart in put from my set top box straight off. giving good pictures. Then later on,in the evening some channels started showing the message "you are not subscribed to this channel, ring blah blah cs to get this channel" or sometimes just "this channel not available, ring ********** and mention this code". At first I thought this was an update issue and I needed to re-boot the samsung box. But after unplugging the box, waiting a few moments, the plugging it back in, it has, so far, refused to reboot fully, and sticks on "your virgin media service will start soon" Of course it does not start.. Could it be possible for my new TV to "fry" the Samsung box? The new TV has freeview, I don't use this as naturally I prefer the lovely picture my settop box gives me, but could this be the problem? and is this a feature I can some how turn off/disable on the tv. The service is only M size but is still good for the cost. However, when the channels started to disappear I thought it might be virgin reconstructing their service as so often happens.:erm: Thanks all, any help would be much appreaciated. :dunce: |
Re: Samsung and new TV issue
Try removing the smartcard from your STB and giving the chip on the card a wipe with a soft cloth. Re-insert the card and then re-boot the STB. If this doesn't solve the problem then ring customer services for assistance.

Re: Samsung and new TV issue
Its your box whats gone faulty. A common thing with the samsung boxes if its been unplugged. I had an engineer to replace my box the other week he replaced the pace with a samsung but advised me the box should not be unplugged as doing this can cause the power supply to go faulty. Basically samsungs should only stay in stand by

Re: Samsung and new TV issue
Did you get it back up ? Sounds to me more like there was a service problem in your area than anything else.

Re: Samsung and new TV issue
No, it's not back up...I've plugged in a spare pace box I had from a previous iinstall and now have just the big five channels, but no virgin1 :(.
I foned India last night who had not heard of any method of sending my box a signal to refresh the box's memory (or whatever) We got as far as unplug the box wait two mins then replug in, "can you tell me whats happening now Mr Mac10"...as soon as I told him it was the same, stuck on the first page "virgin media will start shortly", he arranged for an engineer to call this coming monday afternoon. I spose that means I'll have to tidy up..:) Anyway, just so you know, I have unplugged and plugged the Samsung box on numerous occassions without a single complaint from the box. :) It just seems to me that the arrival of the new telly was just too much for the poor old thing. |
