360 info needed asap please
I'm repairing my friends 3 red lights of death.
Upon taking it apart, on the back there was 4 square white pads that went on the 4 chips on the back of the motherboard. They've lost there stickiness. Is it ok to put everything back to normal without these in place or does the 360 need them? Please help? Thanks Smile ---------- Post added at 22:26 ---------- Previous post was at 22:26 ---------- Or is there a way to replenish the stickiness? |
Re: 360 info needed asap please
No offense but, if you don't know the answer to this then are you sure you should be trying to fix it?
What was on top of the pads? Or atleast above them? |
Re: 360 info needed asap please
:)I presume they were thermal pads if they came off heatsinks. Buy some thermal paste instead.

Why are you trying to repair it? Has the 3 year warranty ran out?

Try buying new a thermal pad sheet and cutting it to size: like this or silimar. You may need to buy the pad cleaner as well to totally remove old glue. Good luck |
Re: 360 info needed asap please
As far as i know the pads are not there to dissipate heat, just to reduce movement of the mobo due to heat expantion, it wouldnt be the end of the world if you didnt put them back, but what you can do is flip them over, and peel off the adhesive cover on the other side, then stick them back on, as the pads should have double sided tape on both sides.
How are you planning to repair it, ---------- Post added at 14:57 ---------- Previous post was at 14:56 ---------- Just for the record its "Red Ring Of Death" rrod |

To the OP.. I would guess there thermal pads as well and if it's still within warranty... then get MS to repair it. |
