Re: Windows 98 internet connection help
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network - Should see your network card also known as NIC or Ethernet - Scroll down find TCP/IP > your nic -Highlight it - Properties - DNS Configuration -
Now this is where I come unstuck as I have no idea what the host and doman would be, someone else will be along soon to help further. If you click Start - Run - type in winipcfg and ok it - in the drop down menu again select your nic, what IP address does it show? More info wil tell you which DNS servers you currently have. HTH |
You might wanna try REFRESHING YOUR IP info..
Goto run/start and enter "winipcfg" and when it opens click "RELEASE" Then after that click "RENEW" it should get the new info from the modem :) Good luck... Win98 is an EXCELLENT os (I have Win98se) |

Re: Windows 98 internet connection help
ok these all sound like great suggestions :D i'll try them out as soon as i can get an ethernet cord strung lol hopefully this will at it takes to get it fixed :D i tried phoning my ISP a few months ago- what a waste of a couple hours! their tech people knew absolutely nothing i was trying to get moms comp online and after an hour or more of trying things he suggested he finally said i have no idea whats wrong and i'd have to look at it in person to figure it out so i'd suggest bringing it to a trained computer person! useful eh? stupid yourlink lol

I had a similar problem of connecting my dad's ancient computer Win98 to a 10meg NTL system via NTL250 modem. It was driving me nuts. The set up had worked superb for a couple of years - then suddenly, no internet. Dad (he is 92 next birthday!!) was peeved. Virgin "help" was no help at all simply telling me "we are not trained to advise on Win98". They did offer an 09 premium rate phone line for some help. NO way. Anyway, I followed your advice and "flushed" the system - and it all worked again. WHY it suddenly became a mess/ unconnected I suppose I will never know. Thanks Snod |

Perhaps your dad had his computer off for many days and when he booted up,the modem did not send the updated info...... Win98 is still very much alive, many ppl still use it (and some even use Win95!!) and im glad your father hung on long enough to get this issue resolved :) I love Win98se like crazy, its an awesome os!! Im glad ya got things working for him :) |
